Jessica & Adam were married on the lawn near Jessica's family's summer cottage at Lake Erie. It had been storming for days and the day of the wedding was no exception. Rain and mud were all around, but it couldn't curb the indomitable spirit of joy that Jessica and Adam radiated.
Jessica's maid of honor gave a beautifully sentimental speech during the reception. She spoke of a time that Adam had recounted to her that went something like this--- shortly after the couple began dating, Jessica offered Adam a glass of ice water and an invitation to sit on a porch swing with such enthusiasm that she made a glass of ice water seem like it was the BEST thing in the world. A glass of water. Think about that. That's everything. That's real gratitude and thankfulness. It's what brings happiness and peace to our lives. It's just water, but it's so much more. It's life-giving and thirst-quenching. It's just like love.
This wedding meant so much to me, not only because I got to travel to such a special place, or that their name cards were real river stones or that they had a canoe full of beer. Those things were awesome, to be sure. But the people in the story, who are open and kind and completely in love are what inspire me deep into my bones.
Jessica & Adam, thank you for being my glass of water.
Thanks, as always, to Mariah for being an excellent second shooter.
